Catarina Olaio Marques (b. 1994, Lisbon) is a violist and sound artist whose work always returns to the same question: what happens when we really listen to a place?

Across performance and sound installation, she develops moments in which sound becomes tangible: strings vibrate, objects resonate, materials respond, and spaces become part of the instrument. In Aural Cartographies, an ongoing artistic research project, she explores this idea in many kinds of places, from historic ruins and open landscapes to small, quiet rooms. Here, the performance space is not just a container for sound but an active participant, and the audience becomes part of a constantly changing sound map.
